This privacy policy has been compiled to better
serve those who are concerned with how their 'Personally identifiable
information' (PII) is being used online. PII, as used in US privacy
law and information security, is information that can be used on its
own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single
person, or to identify an individual in context. Please read our
privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we
collect, use, protect or otherwise handle your Personally Identifiable
Information in accordance with our website.
WE RESPECT THE PRIVACY OF OUR USERS.
This document was NOT written by a lawyer, for your benefit.
We hope this document is understandable by everyone.
What personal information do we collect from
the people that use CaneApp on iOS or Android?
We track and retain NO personally identifiable about
users of CaneApp. If users permit, we generate a unique ID on their device.
This ID is sometimes sent back to our servers, so that we can have analytics
of how often CaneApp is being used.
- This ID is not correlated to any information about our users
- This ID is not correlated to any other application on the device
- This ID is not correlated to any other device
This randomly-generated ID can be disabled by the user by going into the
menu and disabling "Share Generic ID". When disabled, no
ID is stored on your device nor sent to our servers. If you disable, then
re-enable the generic ID, a new generic ID will be randomly generated and
we will continue to have better analitics about our users. There is no
correlation between subsequent IDs: This means we have no way of knowing if
the new ID is related to past IDs.
There is no registration in CaneApp. We do not ask for any
information about our users.
When do we collect information?
The generic ID is sometimes passed from your device
to our servers following this approximate schedule. There are a number of
services/APIs that we provide to deliver all of the storm data behind CaneApp.
The generic ID is only passed when getting one type of data, which
identifies when there is new storm data to fetch. The generic ID is not
shared during other API calls to our servers.
How do we use your information?
The generic ID information is only used for analytics
purposes. This ID enables us to accurately tell how many different devices
on a daily basis. When a user blocks the generic ID, we still know that a
request was made to our services/API, but that access is pooled in a
group that is indeterminate. This ID is randomized across all device clients,
so if the same person has CaneApp on multiple devices, our analytics will
simply increase the number of devices connecting, with no other correlation
between devices.
How do we protect visitor information?
Our website is scanned on a regular basis for
security holes and known vulnerabilities in order to make your visit
to our site as safe as possible. We use an SSL certificate.
Do we use 'cookies'?
CaneApp does not use cookies.
